If cost is an important factor, 160gsm offers excellent value.
It is widely used for 6-inch white paper plates, dessert plates, cake plates, snacks, fruit, and other light meals.
Many supermarkets and discount retailers choose this specification because it provides a good balance between performance and price.
For high-volume promotions, 160gsm remains one of the most cost-effective options available.
170gsm – A Slight Upgrade for Extra Rigidity
Some buyers prefer 170gsm when they want a little more stiffness without significantly increasing cost.
Although not as widely used as 190gsm, it is a practical choice for customers looking for a slightly stronger everyday paper plate.
190gsm & 210gsm – The Best-Selling White Paper Plates
For the U.S. market, 190gsm and 210gsm are by far the most popular specifications for white paper plates.
These weights provide excellent rigidity while remaining economical enough for supermarkets, distributors, foodservice suppliers, and private label brands.
They are commonly used for:
- 7-inch white paper plates
- 9-inch white paper plates
These products represent the highest-volume orders in our factory and continue to be the preferred choice for everyday dining.
230gsm and Above – Designed for Printed Paper Plates
When it comes to custom printed paper plates, the requirements are different.
Printed plates often feature colorful artwork, embossed rims, or deeper profiles, particularly in larger sizes.
For this reason, 230gsm is generally considered the starting point for high-quality printed paper plates.
It provides better rigidity and helps maintain the plate’s shape after printing.
250gsm & 300gsm – Ideal for Premium and Deep Plates
For 8.5-inch and 10.5-inch printed paper plates, many buyers prefer 250gsm or 300gsm.
These larger plates are often used for:
- BBQs
- Holiday meals
- Family dinners
- Catering
- Party supplies
Because they usually have a deeper rim and are expected to hold heavier meals, the extra paper weight improves stability and gives consumers a more premium feel.
Higher GSM Doesn’t Always Mean Better
One mistake many first-time buyers make is choosing the highest GSM available.
In reality, using 300gsm for a small 6-inch dessert plate would simply increase material costs without adding much practical value.
Likewise, producing a large 10.5-inch printed party plate with only 160gsm would not provide the rigidity most customers expect.
