Many people use paper plates every day without thinking about where they come from. At a family picnic, a birthday party, or a takeaway counter, they simply appear, clean, lightweight, and ready to use. But behind each simple white plate is a careful manufacturing process that starts long before it reaches a store shelf.

Everything begins with paperboard.
At our paper plate factory, large rolls of food-grade paperboard arrive first. This is the base material that determines how strong and safe the final plate will be. The paper must be clean, smooth, and stiff enough to hold food without bending. For everyday use, 160gsm works well, while 190gsm or 210gsm offers extra durability for heavier meals.
Before production starts, each batch of paper is checked for thickness, color, and surface quality. Consistent raw material is the foundation of consistent plates.
Once approved, the paper rolls are loaded onto automatic forming machines. These machines feed the paper forward at a steady speed and cut it into round blanks. If printing is required, such as logos or holiday designs, the printing step happens before forming, using food-safe ink. For plain white plates, the paper goes directly to shaping.
This is where the plate begins to take its familiar form.
Inside the forming machine, heat and pressure work together. A metal mold presses the flat paper into shape, creating the rim and the shallow center. At the same time, the edges are trimmed cleanly. The combination of heat and pressure gives the plate stiffness and structure without adding any plastic.
The process happens quickly. One machine can produce thousands of plates every hour. But speed alone is not enough. Stability is more important. The temperature, pressure, and timing must stay consistent, or the plates may warp or feel too soft.
During production, workers regularly take samples from the line. They check the shape, thickness, and strength by hand. A good paper plate should feel firm, balanced, and smooth around the edges. Any imperfect pieces are removed immediately. This continuous inspection helps keep every carton consistent.
After forming, the plates move to the counting and packing area.
Automatic counters stack the plates into fixed quantities, usually 100 pieces per pack. This standard packing makes life easier for wholesalers and retailers, who need simple and predictable units for resale. The stacks are then wrapped or bagged to keep them clean during transport.
Finally, the packs are placed into strong export cartons. Each carton is sealed, labeled, and stacked on pallets, ready for shipment. Proper packing protects the plates during long sea freight and reduces damage when they arrive at warehouses overseas.
From raw paper rolls to finished cartons, the whole process may look straightforward, but it relies on careful control at every step. Small details such as paper quality, mold precision, or packing methods all affect the final result.
