Ordering disposable paper plates from overseas can seem complicated, especially if it’s your first time importing from China. Questions about lead time, shipping, packaging, and customs often come up long before production begins.
After exporting paper plates to customers in North America, Europe, Australia, and many other markets, we’ve found that the same questions are asked again and again. Here’s how the process usually works.
The first question is almost always about lead time.
For standard white paper plates, production is generally faster because the raw materials are already prepared and the machines run these products regularly. Custom printed paper plates require additional time for artwork approval, printing plates, and production setup.
Seasonality also affects scheduling. Spring and early autumn are often relatively stable, while the months leading up to major holidays such as Christmas can become much busier. Placing orders earlier helps avoid unnecessary pressure on production and shipping schedules.
Packaging is another area that buyers sometimes overlook.
Our standard export cartons are designed to protect paper plates during long-distance ocean transportation. Cartons need to be strong enough to resist stacking pressure inside containers while also keeping the products clean and organized.
Inside each carton, products are packed in standard quantities, such as 100 pieces per pack, making warehouse handling and retail distribution much easier.
Moisture protection is equally important.
Although paper plates are durable, paper is still sensitive to humidity. During export, containers may experience temperature changes that create condensation. For this reason, we pay close attention to carton quality, storage conditions before shipment, and proper container loading to minimize moisture risks.
Container loading is more than simply filling empty space.
The way cartons are stacked directly affects product safety during transportation. Proper loading helps prevent cartons from collapsing while maximizing container utilization, allowing customers to reduce freight cost per unit.
Most of our shipments leave through major Chinese ports such as Ningbo, Shanghai, Qingdao, and Shenzhen, depending on production schedules and customer destinations. Choosing the most suitable port often helps optimize transit time and shipping costs.
One question we hear frequently is whether customers should choose FOB or CIF terms.
There is no single answer. Buyers with established freight forwarders often prefer FOB China because it gives them more control over logistics. Others choose CIF for convenience, especially when importing for the first time.
Another common question is whether production starts before or after packaging details are confirmed.
Our answer is always the same: every important detail should be confirmed before production begins. Carton markings, packing quantities, shipping labels, and loading requirements are much easier to manage when everything is agreed upon in advance.
